About The Event
Facilitated by Kait Laughlin and Sandra Scott
(12th May 2021 and 19th May 2021)
Poverty is too often left off the Human Rights agenda in Scotland and the UK, instead of being firmly named - and campaigned on - as the Human Rights violation that it is. While there is a growing and welcome difference between the Scottish and Westminster Governments on this, too many of us are still denied the information we need to understand Government responsibilities to Respect, Protect and Fulfil rights - to an adequate standard of living, to just and favourable conditions of work, and to social security – amongst others.
We need to change the poverty narrative from Charity to Rights. The first of our two sessions aims to cut through the fog on Human Rights and poverty, give you the information needed to raise your voice with confidence and make clear demands, and create a space to discuss where and how to go together with that – a discussion which will carry on into our second session a week later.
